Harley's work is incredible. The photos of the Art Market do not do the work justice. Deitmar--I know what you mean!! The artist's deserve every penny, but I could not afford to buy one thing at the market!! but I have learned to make my own in the old way and have actually sold 3 breast plates so far!

Dang. You had me all excited!! But those pix are of Owen, his son. And I think the one is his grandson. But it's cool two of those Owen photos I have never seen before. This pipe is from the 1860's. Owen sold it to a pawn in New Haven CT in the 1920's (i think i have to look at the doc again) Cool story: Lakota stole it during battle w/Blackfeet. Crow stole it during battle w/ Lakota and gave back to Heavy Breast. This is according to Owen Heavy Breast when he sold the pipe. Thanks for the link it is GREAT!

YEAH! Let's go fishing! btw--i really like Plenty Coups. He was different and I think sincere, which is the BIG difference. When I was at his house I was walking the Medicine Path and looked down and found a very old thumb scraper. I picked it up and was about to pocket it and something told me to leave it. I left it.

Does anyone know and/or have a photo of Chief Heavy Breast? I know there are photos of his son, Owen, but a Blackfeet man told me there are pix of the original chief on the internet and I cannot find them. I have his pipe and have looked for years and am just starting again. I tried to give his pipe back to his family about 5 years ago but they were not to be found, or in any shape to receive this pipe. Thanks for any info/pix.

um. i am lakota. and no, there is not much ''peace'' between them. just ask any Lakota or Cheyenne who was on last year's Big Horn Ride. I was there too. Basically the Crow did what the US told them so they could get the Lakota/Cheyennes. Pretty much why they have the best rez to this day. That is what I mean by ''don't care much for their history." In my opinion, Spotted Tail, Red Cloud, and Plenty Coup were not that complex. The white writers and history books are what make them ''complex" to people who have never lived on a northern plains reservation. There are plenty of men just like them here today. Are there two sides to this?? Yes. Of course. but you really have to know the real history and live and try to survive here before you can really judge. Just my opinion. Don't want to open a can of worms cuz it just isn't worth it.

On the other hand, how can't you love people like these? ! ...just ask a Lakota haha i have photos of Plenty Coup's home...I got to go up into his private room that is usually closed off to visitors. It is up in the attic. He used to go up there to pray. His stuff is still up there. I can try to post some photos if you have never been there before so you can see them. Don't care much for the Crow's history but PC was a good man when you let go of his government butt kissing!

Hi everyone. Anyone? just started my new job at Sinte Gleska University on Rosebud doing all the media stuff. Very interesting two days filming the Treaty Meetings then the graduation ceremonies. Joe Marshall, Charlie Hill, Dennis Banks, all spoke at the graduation. Had some good talks with Leonard Crow Dog but forgot to ask him about Spotted Tail, but I will when i see him this week. Ladonna--one of your past Tribal Presidents spoke for awhile at the Treaty Meetings, I cannot remember his name but he was great and spoke proudly of the Hunkpapa's and Standing Rock. When I get around to editing all this footage I will post some online for anyone who wishes to view some of it. Hecatuyelo
