In many books, even in Edwin sweeney's fine biography of Cochise, this man is often identified as Taza, Cochise's eldest son. But I think these images were taken in 1886 when a Chiricahua delegation led by Loco and Chatto, visited Washington, 10 years after Taza died. (for comparison, see portraits of Chatto and others taken during this occasion). I think this man is actually Noche, who was also present when Geronimo and Naiche discussed their surrender with Crook in March 1886 (see the famouw Camillus Fly photos of these talks)... Any thoughts out there about this?

A rather unfamiliar picture of Red Cloud. I'm pretty sure it was done by Friedrich Weygold in the late summer of 1909...

two more pictures taken by Randall at Fort Bowie, september 7, 1886 (these are the first pics I put on this forum, hope I did everything right... otherwise I'll mail them to you Dietmar) By the way, there actually was a third photograph taken of the Apaches in front of the train, the third shows many of the same soldiers along with geronimo and two or three other warriors. Thanks for your compliments Jinlian!

The famous picture of Geronimo kneeling and gripping the carbine was done on the same occasion as these two. They were taken in the fall of 1884. Randall then left for New Mexico to take photographs of Mescalero and Jicarilla Apaches, but he was on hand when the final band of Geronimo and Naiche arrived in Fort Bowie in early september 1886. Then then took another series of pictures, including some of Geronimo and Naiche. I'll have to look them up in my files and 'll post them later.

Hi Jinlian and Dietmar, Thanks, it is my website indeed. Was looking for some little known American Horse photos (yes the Oglala leader) for I am planning to do a portrait of him... and got them here... As for Dutch being more interested in Indian culture than Germans, I am not quite sure, got some good German collectors of my art work too!
also, I would like to post some photos, what's the easiest way to do so (don't have server space available)? My best, Jeroen

Hello everybody, My name is Jeroen and am a Western artist from the Netherlands. I registered a couple of days ago as a new member and will do my best to add something new from time to time. I came across this forum by accident, was looking for some photographs of American Horse and found this site. It is really nice to see that many other people are just as interested and fascinated by the endless details of Native American history and culture as I am. Anyway, hope I'll be able to add some new info and photographs. Thanks
