Hi Frank, This is a photo by D.F. Barry and my info says he's a Hunkpapa. His name also appears on the 1889 males list of agent McLaughlin of Standing Rock.

Dietmar, I know the question is not neing ignored, and it is not easy to find any info, don't even know who the photographer is... I agree it is probably 1890's... A friend in Oklahoma told me he was probably Yamparika, but where he got this from I don't know... and since Horseback's band consisted mainly of Nokoni Comanches, it would be more likely this guy was Nokoni... if he was indeed a member of that particular band... By the 1890.s however band affiliations were beginning to blur... Nevertheless, thanks for your efforts anyway, Dietmar! my best, Jeroen

Is this man not actually a Crow named Wolf, rather than Blackfoot?

So far, I have only found that he may be a Yamparika Comanche and may have belonged to the band led by Horseback (who was Nokoni Comanche)... the source, however, is not really reliable..

Just to make sure, I did not mean that Becalthey and Nosey are one and the same man, to me they look so much alike (nose, mouth, even the eyes) that I would not be surprised that there may be a mix up in the identification.

Hello Wilson/Kurt, The latest volume of the handbook that has been published is volume 2, as far as I know. Like you, I am keeping an eye out, for I collect them also. According to the new planning, the next one (don't know the number) is due this year. But, taking into account all earlier plans and planning, I would not bet on it... Still, they are making progress, and a next volume will come out soon.

No, different guys, Yellow Coyote is the translation of his Apache name, but he was commonly known among the soldiers as Dutchy. Dead Shot was hanged in 1882, Dutchy survived the Apache wars, so it's not the same warrior. Dutchy was also photographed later on together with general Crook and Alchisay.

Yeah, I am also convinced this is actually Dutchy, but you simply can't dismiss Dan Thrapp lightly... I think this photo was taken in 1884-85... here is the alternate picture:

Hi Frank, According to Dan Thrapp in Conquest of Apacheria this guy is Dead Shot, one of the scouts who turned against the army in the Cibecue affair in 1881. He was consequently arrested, convicted and hanged about a year later. However, I have also seen him identified as Dutchy, also a scout. There is also another photo taken on the same occasion with him standing instead of sitting. I have that one somewhere, but have to look it up...
