Hallo Gerhard,
just in the last few days I stumbled upon a postcard, that was "buried" some time under a staple of papers on my desk, that shows the very exact picture of the tipi cover, as attached and shown by pawnee. I recall that this was something that a friend gave me some years ago. Anyway, the tipi cover is in the Museum für Völkerkunde in Berlin, Germany and a description on the postcard says : Tent cover of the Sioux Indians made of Bison leathter. Collection Köhler, before 1846. I´m curious to learn more on the subject from you, also I´m able to read anything in German that you may want to share, as I´m living in Germany as well. Grüße aus Bayern, best from Bavaria and welcome to the forum chicheman

Hello Ghost Eagle, that´s a most interesting subject you´re planning to do a paper on, about the origins of the proto- and historical Cheyenne bands. I was interested in this as well since years. I think two of the most important books to give answers are the two mentioned by you, John Moore The Cheyenne Nation and Karl Schlesier´s Wolves of the heavens, along with Schlesier´s Plains Indians 500 - 1500 as a third to mention. I wished Mr. Schlesier would be still alive so we would be able to ask things. Anyway I also would be interested in any paper that Kingsley might have done on the proto-Cheyenne /Lakota relations, as well as the paper you will do, Ghost Eagle. I´m looking forward to hopefully hear and learn more on the subject from both of you. There is a more recent book around, "Maheo´s Children - the early history of the Cheyenne and Suthaio Indians from prehistoric times to A.D. 1700", by Brian Keefe. Gives some interesting ideas but have to study his book still myself. Ever heard of it ? Keep us updated on this interesting subject please. Thanks and best from Germany Chicheman

Some more info on the life of Eskiminzin : The most controversial Apache in border history www.facebook.com/wmichaelbooks/posts/eskiminzin-the-most-controversial-apache-in-border-history-part-1eskiminzin-righ/1821035964879148/It shows that Eskiminzin was again and again treated unfair, together with his people, and though he was able to live succesful later at his own farm and support his family, the greed and gossip of the white man made his life a tragic one, especially toward the end of his life, when they sent him even to prison. One year after his release he died, a broken man as it was said. He was a good leader to his people and a man of honor as it looks to me, trying to life in peace with the white eyes, but living a self supportet life in dignity. It is written that he lived much the ways of the white man on his farm, though I think he remained Apache / Nde in his heart and might have practiced Apache ways still, even when his live appeared like a white man´s to the white eyes around him. A man to respect and honor. chicheman

Hello Ghost Eagle,
that sounds most interesting, I did never know that there is a supposed photo of Little Wolf around that was never found yet. Very interesting to me as well, hope this photo might come to light one day. Sending good thoughts from Germany.

Hello badger70, welcome !That sounds very interesting you having Dull Knife´s rifle. I don´t know anything about what rifle this is, so maybe you might want to share with us here perhaps, like a photo. Would be great and interesting to learn more about that weapon once owned by Morningstar/ Dull Knife. Looking forward reading more from you. Greetings from Germany
