Seems like ..... he liked hats !! .... this is a gentler photo of him ... not quite so stern ..... !! but still dignified ....... ! Red Tomahawk and Eagle Man, Dakota police in uniform Barry, D. F. 1854-1934. I am working on replicating one of these uniforms and would like to know any/all information regarding the revolvers and rifles delegated to the tribal policemen during this era. Also, I would like some feedback regarding possible height, weight, of MRT.

Chief bighead and chief wolf necklace are my grandfather's Ohan! I find this very interesting, please PM me and let's discuss this. I am interested in knowing more about relatives of Big Head and Wolfnecklace.

hau LaDonna, thank you for the excellent valuable information regarding MRT.
As for the first woman Tribal Chairperson of Standing Rock, would this be Josephine Gates Kelly?

I read that Richard Blue Earth from Standing Rock was the first man to enlist in the U.S. Army for WWI and that the following men were the original 14 that enlisted;
Albert Grass Ed Two Horses John Brave Bull Alphonse Bear Ghost James Two Dog Yellow Fat Francis Zahn Joe Young Hawk Milan White Eagle Bernie Mulhern Lean Elk Ben Gray Hawk Charlie Little Chief
Questions: #1) is it true that these men legally were not United States citizens at time of enlistment and that only after of those that returned home were granted citizenship? #2) is it true that in June of 1924, only then all enrolled at Standing Rock were granted citizenship? or was it through out the U.S.?
#3) Does anybody know if the following men from Standing Rock? [ all i know is that they were documented as WWI soldiers, but don't know where they are from]
Star Struck by the Ree II George Hopkins Joseph Jordan Jacob Douglas

I think the post should stay because we are all learning and it help with other doing research, when it comes to history of our people no one is wrong we are all just trying to uncover our past and put it down so our people never forget who they are. Hau! Thank you very much for your valuable knowledge that you share unconditionally. Without all that you have shared, in my case i would have never discovered who i was. I use to think that i was related to dietmar, maybe i am somehow too? Thank You!

Hau ftpeckpabaksa, thank you for your post. RE: Big Brains passing in 1873 I would like to make an attempt at determination of when Big Brains passed. You state that the winter count mentions Big Brains passing in 1873? In the following link it states that Gregor has compiled a biographical essay about Big Head: amertribes.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=yanktonais&action=display&thread=347&page=2Some Winter Counts for the years 1863/64 – e.g., the count of No Two Horns (Hunkpapa) at the Buechel Museum – report the death of a Dakota called Big Head, who was taken prisoner by soldiers. This must have been the older Big Head. Members, please share your feedback regarding any other documentation regarding the approximate and/or date, month, year that the elder Big Brains/Big Head passed. Thank You,

there are Two different men Big Head Big Brain Agree & Confirmed! Thank you LaDonna for posting. I use to think that they were the same too. But recently, I attended, listened to LaDonna in person, and seen / confirmed that these are two different men. As I seen where each is buried and the Tribal elders that were present at these sites. Also confirmed who each was with documented information.

Hau emilylevine, Thank you for your question. Personally, i would have to believe that Sinte Maza is M. RT's father. On page 1, biggordie posted that he just finished transcribing a Cheyenne account which mentions a warrior of the same name. The account appears to be that regarding LBH.
I would like to research this warrior of the same name. For me, this brings about some speculation(s) and/or possibilities. e.g. this warrior of the same name could possibly be the son of Maka Opape?

Upon research of "Ruth Big Head" All i know is that CCHS (Cumberland County Historical Society) Carlisle, Pa. has 3 three photos of Ruth Big Head. In one of the photos and upon contact with one of the CCHS photo curators. They state that there is an arrival photo dated 1879. Also, upon contact with an assistant photo curator at CCHS. They state that all they have listed for Ruth Big Head is that she was from the Rosebud Agency.
Does anybody have any information or photo(s) related to Ruth Big Head? It may be possible that she is related to Pahtanka?

Dry article in all aspects in my personal opinion. Tribal police officer kills tribal chief. This is the only time in the history of SR that this has ever happen. Tribal police officer kills tribal member. Upon a brief investigation, i would have to speculate that this has happen less than ten times. Tribal member kills tribal member. Upon a brief investigation, i would have to speculate that this has happened several times and needs to be halted.
