I am searching for a photo of my great grandfather, who was an Apache Scout. His name was Allen Goseyun but also went by Hosayon, Cusseon, Consision, and Goseyun.

Wow you guys have great pictures on here.. I am trying to help my friend look into her ancestry. She is a White Mountain Apache. I have been on ancestry.com and other sites trying to find any info I can for her. I was wondering if any of you know about John Dazen of the White Mountain tribe. I read somewhere that he was a chief. Some of the other ones I'm looking for info on are of the last names Thompson, Cosen, Riley/Friday. If anyone can help me would you please email me or reply back.. Thank you so much. & for posting such great pics.

redpaint ... I did not ever answer your post ... redpaint Avatar redpaint Mar 8, 2015 at 4:20pm Quote likePost Options dT Dan Thrapp, a well known Apache historian, wrote an entire book on Sieber, "Al Sieber Chief of Scouts" It's a good read and will tell you anything you wanted to know about Sieber. He was an interesting character and nobody messed around with him. Of interesting note is Sieber's performance at the battle of Big Dry Wah.
Thank you. I will try to get a copy of this book.
tiswin ... to answer your question. Bronco Apaches raided in Arixona & Mexico for some time after Geronimos surrender. Big Foot Maasai also disapoeared into the wilderness at this time, after his great escape. It is thought that Apache bloodlines still exist in the mtns of northern Mexico ... perhaps existing still today.

DT just a FYI the memeber aka redpaint was deleted or banned per his own doing. And my friend heads up the presence of apaches in old mexico is a TRUE event. I met some in 88 when a group from okla and mescalero went and met with a group of broncos yet the current war zone called mexico is not a safe place.

How did you talk to one another, do they speak still Apache among themselves ? I guess so. Guess otherwise they speak spanish to non-Apache People.
Thank you, best from Germany

Lt. Gatewood, Lt. Mills, and an unidentified Apache Scout, probably a White Mountain Apache. This was near naco sari chico where the scouts got into a fight with the Mexican army and taraumara scouts where their LT was mortally wonded

Kayitah, Thanks for posting the above picture and verifying Dandy Jim is there, on the far right. yes, Dandy Jim is crouching on the far right. Crouching on the far left is Ukashe, while Ha-teth-la is in the rear, with darl face paint on his cheeks. I've seen at least one source (could be Toby Giese's two books) where the man with a white shirt at center is identifed as Capitan Chiquito. I can't positively say it is him, as I've never seen a photograph of him. He was painted, though, by Eldridge Ayer Burbank. the man with a white shirt at center: Has-chug-ee ?

I just aquired an original stereoview of Al Seiber and scouts taken at San Carlos by J.C. Burge around 1885. Here is the photo I believe you are referring to: commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Al_Sieber_with_Apache_scouts,_JC_Burge,_1870s.jpg That is not Al Sieber in that stereoscopic image. I know it says it is on Wikipedia and the auction page, but it isn't. There are several images that have been misidentified as Al Sieber. I am not a scholarly authority. But I am a family member (although born long after he died of course!), and I believe I can recognize Al Sieber when I see him. I can also prove it by comparing to other photos. Save

I am interested in seeing photos of John Rope, who fought with my ancestor Al Sieber. I am new to this forum, and happy to see all the gathered wisdom and information.
