I have found additional info on the Loco photograph posted above. It seems the image was taken in the summer of 1883, following the "return of the Apache hostiles from Old Mexico..." at San Carlos. The photographer is a certain Durhem and he took several pictures at the time. I have not found these yet, but there are probably some rare images still out there... perhaps from Nana who returned with Loco...

Thanks a lot, Jeroen. Do you know who else returned with Loco at the time? I have several images of Chiricahuas either at Fort Riley, Kansas (which I doubt), or at Fort Union, New Mexico (I found the same images from two different sources, once with Fort Riley and once with Fort Union in the caption). Here's one of the pictures, presumably showing either Loco or Nana (I'm inclined to Nana) and Chato at center... Attachments:

I agree about Fort Union! (look my post in 'Individual Chiricahuas' « Result #3 on Apr 13, 2011, 2:34pm ») But Nana is not here. Compare with anothher photo from that session Attachments:

There were some 300 Chiricahua with Loco at that time, including the bands of Nana, Bonito, Mangas and Cathlay... it would be great to have additional images of these men! I also think the photo above more likely was taken at Fort Union than Fort Riley. If so, they may be members of Loco's family held there. Chiricahua people were also held at Fort Thomas at the time, perhaps the photograph was taken there?!?

I couldn't find out anything about that Durhem or Durham either, too bad... So the man at center is neither Loco, nor Nana. What about the other one being Chato??? I'd like to know your opinon, guys and girls

here's another image from the same series... Jeroen, where have you heard about this photographer named Durhem (or Durham?)? Sounds very interesting and there may indeed be many more photographs of Loco's band taken by him. I haven't heard about him before. Do you know his first name? Attachments:

Hello Kayitah, I got the name Durhem from the ethnographic museum (here in Holland) that also has the negative of the Loco image. I have contacted them but, unfortunately, there is very little additional info, and no first name. Like you, I had never heard of him before either. But it seems quite certain there must be more photographs... Great image of the father and his girl by the way, never seen it before...

Thank you, Jeroen. I guess you already have contacted the museum to find out if they have more photographs from Durhem, right? So we have a heretofore unknown image of Loco and the man's name who made it. I will continue my search for more from this Durhem and let you guys know as soon as I find anything. In the meantime it would be cool if we could come up with all images we have from the Chiricahuas' stay at Fort Union and Fort Thomas. I guess a couple photographs must have been taken at Fort Leavenworth, during the two-months stay there of Chato's and Loco's delegation after their return from Washington.
