people get caught up in which bands we are from when it is a choice of when you live. LaDonna, the bands have confused me but, thanks to you, I think I understand now. For example, a Lakota woman born in the Hunkpapa band marries an Oglala and lives with her husband's people, so she is then Oglala and would be considered Oglala forever after. Her children would also be considered Oglala, not half Hunkpapa (because of her) and half Oglala (because of her husband). They all are Oglala. Is it really this simple?

Tatanka ~ I think that tale refers to Dorman too. If you're referring to the single shot by Moving Robe Woman, that was not Dorman. He suffered a long brutal death, including being burned alive.

Yes, the original post is at the top, and the others are in chronological order under it, starting with the oldest and ending with the most recent.
I'm sorry, but I don't understand how you think the replies are flipped.

I believe that can be done, but I'd like to hear from more people before we do that. I think it would be very confusing for people who first visit the site because they would have to scroll all the way down and/or go to another page to see the original question.
Perhaps another solution will work for you, Annie. If you go to the bottom of the main page, there is a line in the information section that says, "View the 25 most recent posts of this forum." If you click on that, you will see a list of the last posts. If you see something you would like to reply to, you can click on the thread name and be taken directly to the place where that reply appears without having to scroll. Please try that and see if that makes it easier for you.

Yes, that's how I first "met" him. He has been working on the book for several years. He has diverse interests, including Germany's attempt to have an atomic bomb in World War II and the anti-war underground movement of the 1960s in the US. If this article is an indication of the quality of his work about Crazy Horse, it should be a great book!

You probably noticed that there is a new category of boards, Teton/Lakota. It was obvious that the sub-boards in the old Teton/Lakota board were soon going to be difficult to see, so we decided to make Teton/Lakota is own category. (You can thank Dietmar for that idea!) Now, if you have general questions or comments about the Lakota, you can start a new thread on the "General Information" board. If you want to post about someone in a specific council fire, you can post on that board.
We expect that we will experience similar "growing pains" with other boards as this site progresses. Please bear with us and let us know what we can do to improve these boards for you. We want them to be as user-friendly as possible.

Tom has posted on the LBH board, so perhaps he'll stop by here one day. Thanks for finding the article, Dietmar!

He's going to grow into those puppy paws!
I am very jealous, Frank! Over the years I've had an English Springer Spaniel, a Bichon Frise, a Dalmation and two Lab/German Shepherd mixes, and I miss them terribly. Our lifestyle now is such that it wouldn't be fair to have a dog right now, but I'm sure there is another dog in my future.
Keep posting puppy pictures!

If you'll go to whitepages.com and inquire for Anthony Little Whirlwind in Montana, you'll get an address and phone number in Billings.
These boards are probably too young for him to have posted, and I don't recall him on the Little Bighorn boards. I do wish you luck, especially since you are being so kind to try provide him with information.

Opómika

The following was posted on the Little Bighorn Message Boards. Perhaps someone here can help. Dear All,
Please allow me to present a question. As curator at the Museum of Ethnology in Vienna, I came across a reference in the museum’s records about a Sioux chief. His name has been registered as Opómika, with the apparent meaning of “One Hundred.” He died in 1871, in Dakota Territory, according to the same reference. The information comes from the anthropologist Walter J. Hoffmann of the Bureau of American Ethnology of the Smithsonian Institution, who, as a medical officer, visited the Lakota at the Grand River Agency in 1872-1873. The transcription of his name may not be correct or up to date. A Dakota online dictionary presents opawiå¥e, meaning “one hundred” or literally “the turning point.”
Could somebody help us out? Has anybody heard of this chief and has additional information about his life? Any help is very, very much appreciated. Thank you in advance for your attention and assistance!
With kind regards, Gerard

Diane, you are talking about Charlie the Italian Stallion right? Is he registered in here or what.... I didnt see him on members list? Yes! Since nothing else on this thread is "for sure," I can tell you that the photo came from our Italian friend Charlie and that he has now posted here. Welcome, Charlie! Diane
