The manuscript about this battle is not readily available yet. See the source for more information about it. All through his life, [Elias] Goes Ahead heard stories of a decisive battle near the present-day town of Pryor between the Crows and a combined army of Sioux, Cheyenne and Arapahoe.
The stories were specific. The battle was in 1863 or 1864 along Arrow Creek about 10 miles north of Pryor. The attacking force was there to push the Crows further westward, off the tribe’s rich ancestral homeland. The Crow families and fighters set their teepees tightly together in a defensive line, and dug trenches underneath the lodges. Old buffalo hides were used to fortify the bulwarks. Sometimes, Goes Ahead’s father or uncles would show him specific spots where Crow warriors fell or were rescued or where supernatural forces had intervened, such as where a herd of elk had stampeded, raising dust and distracting the attacking fighters, who feared that Crow reinforcements raced toward the fight. fillupe, Your photo must be on a server or website so it has a web address, such as www.photoplace.com/yourphoto.jpg <-- That is a made-up address. There are two ways to have it show in your message: 1. Put the photo's web address in the message box, highlight the complete web address, and click the fourth button from the left on the bottom row of buttons, the one that looks like a little picture that is above the "Angry" smiley face. That will put the appropriate tags on either side of the address. 2. Place the tags manually at either end of the address, so it looks like this, only use brackets instead of parentheses: (img)http://www.photoplace.com/yourphoto.jpg(/img) Be sure to Preview your message before you click Post Reply so you can make sure the photo looks OK. If all else fails, you can email it to me, and I'll post it for you. Just please make sure you tell me which board and thread it goes on. Diane

So cute -- and so are his adoptive parents! How many puppies were in the litter?

A website visitor, who is the 3xgreat granddaughter of Sitting Crow would like more information about him. I have to admit that the bio page (http://www.american-tribes.com/Lakota/BIO/SittingCrow.htm) is a bit ambiguous about Sitting Crow versus Scarlet Eagle. Am I correct that "Chief" Sitting Crow's son, also named Sitting Crow and known as Scarlet Eagle, was the one at Little Bighorn? She would also like to know where he died.

I rearranged the files on our server last night/this morning so that future additions and updates will be easier and faster for me to load.
The changes should not affect you unless you have bookmarks or links to certain pages on the main American-Tribes.com website.
Let me know if you have trouble finding a certain page and, as always, please let me know if a page doesn't display well, a photo is missing, or anything else looks wrong.
Thanks! Diane

I have to admit to laziness concerning the photos. I used ones that I had on my computer and were of similar quality. I know there are sites that have great photos of other tribes, so I will try to find some that encompass a greater variety of tribes.
Good suggestion!

I know the system you mean, but I'm not sure it can be used on these boards.
We have to consider making people be registered to post. That will keep the bots out.

Thanks! I'll let Dietmar worry about it. Seriously, I appreciate any and all advice. We want the site to be accurate about the people we profile. I'm sure there will be similar challenges as we move to other tribes across the country.

I deleted the post Frank was referring to in his message above. We wanted to keep the forum open, but it looks like Dietmar and I will have to re-examine that policy.
There are some seriously disturbed people in this world!

clw, I'm just trying to get a handle on it so I can be accurate in the main pages. How can I best make sure I've got things right when someone has been affiliated with two bands? Is the last one they lived with the best place to list them, or should I do as with Crazy Horse and list them in both?

Oh . . . now I get it! Sorry. I didn't realize you meant while you were writing a reply.
No, that can't be changed. In fact, if you preview your message and go back to change something, all of the messages will have disappeared.
If I'm writing a long reply or know there are several points I want to respond to, I open a second copy of the board so that I can switch between the two.
The PMs really drive me nuts because you can't see what the person asked when you're replying. I open a second copy of their note then, too.
