Oh, I was thinking more along the lines that they may have been a gift to Long Dog or simply that they were very similar - like you say, a common pattern

here is an updated list of known photographs of Sitting Bull - version dated 20th February 2019, courtesy of and copyright by Markus Lindner, Goethe University, Frankfurt-am-Main, Germany. Markus spent a lot of time researching this particular subject and seemingly it is the only work of its kind in existence. A number of the listed images, particularly Nos. 01, 06, 10, U-01, U-02 and U-03 I personally am not convinced that these really include Sitting Bull. part 1: Sitting Bull list of known photographs - up....pdf (530.76 KB) and part 2: Sitting Bull list of known photographs - up....pdf (957.13 KB)

Agree about 01 and 10; the date, at least, is wrong for 06; the jury's out on the other three. Good to have an update, though. Thanks.

Sitting Bull must have been eating hearty, He put some weight on! His face is fat! Look at my Avatar, that is Sitting Bull too, and his face is skinny. You can see his cheekbones clearly. In some of these pictures, Sitting Bull has a fat face! Haha. All in good fun. God bless.

Thank you very much, Californian! Very glad to see this information, the only qustion now to find pictures of rather good quality. If Long Dog is not arikara, I think this leggings were presented for him from Sitting Bull, or Long Dog give them to him for a while, during photoset. Never-the-less beadwork is not tipical, may be it was a present from nes-perce, who lived in hunkpapa camp? It will be an interesting story to investigate...

The photo you've posted shows a man in trousers. You can go to the Denver Public Library site and blow up some of these trial photos and you'll see Sitting Bull is definitely wearing leggings under his blanket. Your photo One of the others in the series that definitely shows Sitting Bull Sitting Bull As for the other photo... Hard to tell, I think.

Thank you, I agree with you... About the first photo - Sitting Bull was not only in leggings, but also in mocassins with white beadwork on them, and the man dressed in white shirt do not have mocs with white bead... The second as for for me, do not look like Sitting Bull... Sorry, can you give a link, where are these photoes on Denver Public Library? I tried to find, but with no result...

I found it, thanks! And is it possible to save them in big size? As I see there only medium and small sizes to save?

Yes it is. The photo of Rain on the horse looks like it was taken the same time as that of Long Dog. Maybe they were both taken on the day of Sitting Bull's 'trial.'
I blew the photos up on the site then used the snipping tool on the computer to crop a part of the image.
