Hello again Wendell Smoke ! It would be interesting to know the oppinion of your great-great-grandfather Solomon (Smoke 2) on several matters which happened between 1860 - 1880. Was he part of the Payabya group who splitted away from the Hunkpatila band ? As for example his brother Man Afraid of His Horse did. Or did he stay in the Hunkpatila band ? As for example Crazy Horse did. Did he fight in the Black Hills War in 1876 ? Did he go to Canada during the winter 1877-1878 or later ? It would be interesting to know what Oglála band your great-great-great-grandmother - the mother of Solomon (Smoke 2) - belonged to. Do you know her parents name and to what band they belonged to ? Was Yellow Eagle another name of Smoke ? Is the Standing Bull who discovered the Black Hills according to several Lakota winter counts, the same person as your ancestor Standing Bull and father of Body Parts ? Do you know anything about the relatives of Black Buffalo. The husband of White Cow Woman and the father of One Horn, Lone Horn etc.. For example his parents and grandparents and to what Lakota division and/or band they belonged to ? It is said that one group within the Hunkpatila was Kapozha. Do you know the names of other groups within the Hunkpatila ? Did Payabya exists within the Hunkpatila band before the split from the Hunkpatila ? Or was it a new name for the leaving group ? In what year did Payabya split away from the Hunkpatila ? Do you know any details of how and why and where the Payabya splitted away from the Hunkpatila ? Was the Oyuhpe band part of the Hunkpatila band, before Hunkpatila splitted into Smoke people vs. Bear people ? That is, was the Oyuhpe a group within the Hunkpatila before the split into the Smoke people vs. Bear people ? Or was the Oyuhpe formed and given their name after the split of the Hunkpatila into the Smoke people vs. Bear people, because they were the neutral people in this conflict within the Hunkpatila ? I also wrote you a short message (you get access to it on the top of the web page, close to where you login). I hope you don't get bothered by all these questions. Thanks in advance for your patience. I look forward to your reply ! Hreinn

Hello Wendell Smoke ! Solomon was an leader of Toklala society & headman of the IteSica band of the Oglalas! later on, he was the chief of his own band called Bald heads of Pine ridge & Porcupine! What kind of a society was Toklala ? For example, was it an akíčhita (akicita) society ? Did the members of Toklala society consists of only Hunkpatilas or were the members also from other bands of Oglála ? Do you know names of other individuals of the Toklala society ? Do you know in what year and month Solomon Smoke 2 left the IteSica band and established his own band - the Bald Heads of Pine Ridge & Porcupine ? Hreinn

Wendell Smoke: Solomon went with his brother No neck to Canada several times in 1877 & 1890 but came back one day later! Did Solomon Smoke 2 and No Neck act as messengers between their relatives in Canada and the U.S. Army/U.S. Government ? Or did they have a permission from the government to negotiate with the Lakotas in Canada ? Any comments on the nature of their travels to Canada ? It must have been difficult to go to Canada several times in that period ! Any further comments on what you said about his/their return from Canada one day later in 1890 ? Hreinn

hreinn,
The Toklalas "Kit fox" was an great chief & warrior society amongst the Lakota Sioux!
Each Lakota bands had their own Toklalas!
Bout in 1865, 1868 & 1875 when Smoke II establish his own band "Bald heads"!
In 1865 the re-maining portion of the people who re-maining faithful & followers of Chief Smoke chose Smoke II as one of their acting headmen! (after the death of Smoke in 1864)
In 1868 Smoke II & his followers gain more people!
In 1875 the followers appointed Smoke II as the Chief & White bull as a headman of them!
No, Smoke II & No neck wasn't messengers!
In 1877 Smoke II went to Canada with his brother No neck because No neck's mother Brown eyes woman was from the hunkpapas... No Neck wanted to go, see & stay with his mother's relatives! So Smoke II went with No neck but that next day Smoke II returned!
In 1890 after Smoke II got wounded at the massacre... he took flight with his Bro. No Neck, & a chief White bull & some Minneconjus/Oglalas to Canada that but next day they returned!
