Going to something that Kayitah said earlier on this thread ...
"On some days it saddens me that a lot of information is buried in U.S. archives, nearly forgotten. Now and then I suddenly come over something of interest online, but 99% of it is written down on old, yellowed paper, resting in some university archive."
Does anyone have any ideas on where exactly this information would be stored? Is it in the official US Archives which would be in Washington DC? It seems that people here think that possibly a university may have some of these records too? Do you know which one?

There are documents and items in several places. Some is at the National Anthropological Archives, National Museum of Natural History-Department of Anthropology Collections, National Archives-Records Administration and National Museum of the American Indian. Wonderful stuff.

penjady ... OK that is helpful. I don't know when I will get a chance to see those places. But if it turns out in my travels that I am close to any of them - I will try to go and make copies of the documents and pix that they have. Anything I find I will post here (eventually).

New face for me: Carlos Keannie/Kenne (1875/81 – Nov 7, 1923 Ft. Sill) - son of Ban-ge-hun, brother of Walter Louie, husband of Martha Prince (White missionary-worker) and good Christian. He is with Jozhe, Kaywaykla, Cooney and Comanches. Attachments:

I bought a copy of that book and received it yesterday...It looks great and very complete, lots of useful info and a series of nice photographs, including some new ones (at least, for me). Extra is a the series of of well reproduced color drawings by Goklitz, done while in Mount Vernon. I still have to read the book but I guess it is well worth the price... a fine addition, particularly for the List of 500 POW project...

I was waiting for the miracle, for the miracle to come (C) L. Cohen I read a few pages and very impressed. The set is new information that explains some of the darkest moments of the history of the Apaches. Too much work for me

I was able to look at a copy of "From Fort Marion to Fort Sill" by Alicia Delgadillo. It has some good information and it has some mistakes also. It could have been more accurate if the information was checked with the descendants as part of the editing process. The document on which the book was based was George Wratten's notes which were stolen from Sam and Blossom Haozous by BIA Field Matron Allie Brennan and later went to the museum at Fort Sill. Requests that they not be published were heeded until now.

dt, There is a great book called "Guide to the Records in the National Archives of the United States Relating to American Indians" compiled by Edward E. Hill. The book is a fantastic reference, it tells you where every single American Indian record document is located in the National Archives. I use it for reference constantly! The Archives website is an absolute monster! This book tells you what the records are and where to find them. I would highly recommend it!!!!!
