" Among the small number of Americans who can walk the same beaches, paddle the same waters, and hunt the same lands our ancestors did centuries ago. The Quinault Indian Nation (QIN) consists of the Quinault and Queets tribes and descendants of five other coastal tribes: Quileute, Hoh, Chehalis, Chinook, and Cowlitz . " 209.206.175.157/Wakalapi

The Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde www.grandronde.orgIn my personal opinion, this tribe has worked very hard as a community to make progress in the best of ways. Their website has some interesting information and video's of their history. The Grand Ronde Tribes also offers much in their community, such as cultural education classes that includes cedar plated hats, cradle boards, hide tanning and much more. In which I have personally taken advantage of since the cultural education classes are generally free of charge and most of the cultural education classes are taught by tribal members. Their land is quite beautiful. Lots of forest, much wildlife and their new area of land where they will be having their annual Grand Ronde Pow Wow is beautiful and has much history. Wakalapi

Hau LaDonna,
Awe yes, "Vegas" the brightly lit city that has all the fun roller coasters, endless surplus of tasty buffets and current home of Ms. Cherilyn Sarkisian LaPierre...
Have safe travels and looking forward to your very valuable posts.

A grandfather who believes in tradition. A teenager who believes in today.
An Indian elder storyteller asks his grandson Shane, who is in trouble owing money to some bad guys, to take his old pony and him to Albuquerque to the great powwow. While traveling, Grandpa tells Shane stories that have been passed down from one generation to the next.

Does anybody have any information as to when the Standing Rock Indian Police was started?
I have read documentation regarding the Standing Rock Indian Police from 1890 and have read documentation from 1892-1902 pertaining to who was Captain etc...
As you may already know. Marcellus Red Tomahawk is probably best known during the late 1800's for being on the Standing Rock Indian Police. Marcellus Red Tomahawk was captain of the Standing Rock Indian Police 1892 - 1894.
David Standing Soldier suceeded him and held the position from 1895-1902 based on the information that I have read.
Does anybody have a photo of David Standing Soldier and/or have anymore information about David Standing Soldier?
Thanks,
Wakalapi

The North Dakota Highway Patrol symbol is a profile of Marcellus Red Tomahawk. The North Dakota Highway Patrol officially adopted the profile of Marcellus Red Tomahawk as the patrol vehicle door emblem and department symbol in 1951. 1951, 102 years after Marcellus Red Tomahawk was born (1849) and 20 years after his death (1931). www.nd.gov/ndhp/history.htmlMarcellus Red Tomahawk is the son of Peter Iron Tail. My question is: Would Peter Iron Tail be one of 1 of 3 portrait models selected to be on the Indian Head Buffalo nickel? Wakalapi

Greetings, Wakalapi has arrived on the scene! Thank you for the new board and I look forward to learning much more. As for myself, I was wondering how many of you can translate the word "Wakalapi"? Just FYI for those of you who don't know. Wakalapi is a Lakota word for Coffee. It is my user name and self selected based on the color of my skin. I'am a FT, life long student looking forward to learning more primarily about the northern tribes. More specifically Hunk-Papa & Oglala. Keep me posted. Toksa Ake Wakalapi
