North American Indians in the Great War by Susan A. Krouse I found this book to be personally useful, as I found some documentation of my maternal grandfather in it. Also the book has many names that could benefit those that are searching for geneology information regarding relatives that were in the military. Also found the following web link, which has pictures from the military and related to the book. www.indiana.edu/~mathers/collections/photos/reading2.htmlWakalapi

Hau liverpoolannie,
Thank you for posting this picture. This picture of Marcellus RT is interesting to me. I wonder about his felt derby and/or bowler. As for his coat... I think it might be a straight cut wool coat.
I really admire his facial as he looks very proud, very full of dignity.

Hau Dietmar,
Thanks for posting another RT picture. I'm still on the search for any pictures of Marcellus Red Tomahawk's wives and/or children. Also Peter Irontail is Marcellus RT father.
If anybody has any documentation and/or pictures of Peter Irontail. Please post these and/or let me know asap. That way I can make a better connection and more complete picture.

Hau, I have made discover of some pictures on the web. One of the women (White Hawk) is the wife of Big Foot. Interesting! www.websitetoolbox.com/tool/post/legends/vpost?id=2455759FYI: The posting states that these pictures were originally posted by HinTamaheca. Interesting! I have seen this name on other website postings. Wakalapi

In my opinion, there is so much to appreciate, admire & acknowledge women for that one would probably end up writing an award winning novel.
My question to you is, who are some of our Hunk-Papa women that are known for traditional & cultural teachings that had/have impacted our tribe?

Hau ephriam,
Thank you very much for your posting. I appreciate & admire the knowledge that your sharing regarding Marcellus Red Tomahawk. I was wondering if you have any information regarding any of his children?
Also would like to know if you have any information regarding the white horse society that is sometimes mentioned in Marcellus Red Tomahawk's obits?

Hau pohanka,
FYI, the words above your post is Lakotaiyapi. It's more of a statement of strong disagreement. Keep posting, as this board has much positive potential.

This is very good information. Thanks for the pictures too! I noted that in the first Barry photo, Flying By is wearing a cross. Interesting!

Hau Dietmar,
Regarding your question "Does the Red Tomahawk family today feel more Hunkpapa than Yanktonai?" I would personally have to state that your question is too broad. More specifically "the Red Tomahawk Family". As for myself, I would have to think that those individuals that are living of the Red Tomahawk Family could and/or might have similair and/or different family history. For Example: Marcellus Red Tomahawk His father is Peter Iron Tail (Yanktonais) His mother is Black Eagle (Hunk-Papa)
Marcellus Red Tomahawk (Yanktonais / Hunk-Papa) Marcella Red Tomahawk (Hunk-Papa) b. 1866 <-- Marcellus Wife
Catherine Pretty Skirt (Hunk-Papa) b. 1853 <-- Marcellus Wife
Winona Black Bear (Hunk-Papa) b. 1848 <-- Marcellus Wife
Marcellus & Marcella had a son named Barnard (Barney). I would think that if Barney had to specify blood quantum. I would think that it could be interpertated as 3/4 Hunk-Papa 1/4 Yanktonais.
See where I'am going with this? Though you are the Administrator, so it is your decision to move or not to move.
Regarding the "headman". Could this be referring to the White Horse society that is mentioned in some of Marcellus Red Tomahawk's obits?

Hau Kiktayo Kangi,
"FYI - Tanyan Lakota iwayesni eyas owakahnige cikala yelo." ( I don't speak Lakota well, but I understand alittle )
Yes, writing our language is more of our modern education teachings. I continue to learn and have been learning mostly via Lakota CD's, books, Internet... OLC has some beneficial opportunities for those interested. Bryan Charging Cloud from OLC has posted education material regarding Lakotaiyapi online for his students. Upon speaking with Bryan, I told him that the material is also beneficial for those of us who have the desire to learn our language.
I also have David Little Elk's Lakota Language CD's & Learning Book. In my personal opinion, David did a really good job with the material. One of the best things that I like is on the CD's during the verbal interaction, David made it so that one can actual in a sense make a reply and/or have time to think about the reply.
Keep me posted.

Hau,
Pilamaya yelo! The photo's are another blessing to my eyes. I noticied the last photo entitled (sinte and wives). "Wives" I have seen this over and over many times. Many of our men relatives had "wives". ??
