Hello. I hope you do not find my inquiry to be trivial or offensive, but I am researching the Southern Cheyenne in my efforts to create an authentic Southern Cheyenne Woman Three-Hide Dress and accessories for a Native Costume Parade Class. I've had success in finding books and photographs of the clothing, as well as patterns to make the dress and accessories. What is giving me difficulty, is trying to research how the Southern Cheyenne of the 1800's tacked their horses. I am trying to be diligent in making my costume and my horses attire, or lack thereof, to be authentic and not some Western movie joke. I have long been an admirer of Native American Culture and do not wish to do or create anything that would cause offense or be inappropriate. If anyone could direct me to any reference materials on the Southern Cheyenne's horse culture, I would be very appreciative. Or, if anyone can just tell me what was customary, that's fine too. My vision is to create an example of what a Southern Cheyenne woman would look like perhaps as she helped move her family to a new location. I suppose I should add that if the idea of a Non-Native American doing this is offensive in any way, please tell me that also, as I would stop this project if that be the case. Thank you for any help or insight you can provide. Suzan Moren
