Grabill was based in South Dakota and his photographs of Indians tend to be from 1890-1

The above four Cheyennes are from left to right:
Laban Little Wolf, Hairy Hand, Porcupine, Big Beaver photograph taken in 1922
All four were at the Little Bighorn in 1876. Porcupine later was the Cheyenne delegate who visited Wovoka and brought the Ghost Dance to the Cheyennes.

Just a big thank you to those who have made the photos available for Porcupine, Wild Hog, Strong Left Hand, etc.
Has anyone posted any information concerning the origins of the Ghost Dance and the Walker Lake Incident?

Good morning. Comparing Laban Little Wolf's pictures to the Grabill's one in the first post I think the caption is wrong and our man is the one in the middle (labelled n. 2), rather than the first or the third one. The man in the Mitchell's photo is clearly not the same person but looks more like the one of a "Laban Little Wolf" taken in Washington in March 1895. For comparison see: siris-archives.si.edu/ipac20/ipac.jsp?uri=full=3100001%7E!9504!0&term=#focus Perhaps the two man are somehow related? And which one is the nephew of the famous Northern Cheyenne leader?

Clarence, the man identified at the Smithsonian as Laban Little Wolf is instead a Southern Cheyenne of the same name, Little Wolf.

Thanks for your answer Dietmar! I understood that after searching in the Southern Cheyenne thread. My guess was that the Laban Little Wolf portraied in 1913 by D.W.Gill and also in younger age in the above post by jeroen looks more like the second man from the right in the Grabill picture despite of the official caption. I can't also find any resemblance with the Mitchell photo...

Hello, I am new to this forum. I am a painter and I painted Young Little Wolf how I imagine he looked like in his middle age. Any comments welcome I really like this forum and have been following it for a long time now. Thanks Miloš Englberth
