Hey Everyone....thanks again for the photos of Milk Now we cannot find one of Black Pipe, a Wajaje chief who lived here on Rosebud and from which the Black Pipe community was named. Anybody know of a pic of him? Thanks millions!

Hi miyelo,
the man on the horse is Pizzola, according to Hamilton´s book on the Rosebud Sioux a member of the Spring Creek District near Saint Francis Mission.
I wasn´t aware that there was a Wazhazha leader called Black Pipe. I always thought the district/community was named after Black Pipe Creek.
Best wishes
Dietmar

In George Hyde's Spotted Tail's Folk there's a footnote reporting that the Yankton newspaper in 1870 had Black Pipe as the Wazhazha leader who went to Washington with Swift Bear, while in fact the Wazhazha headmen in question was Yellow Hair. Were Black Pipe and Swift Bear somehow related? When I first read Hyde's book, I even thought Black Pipe and Yellow Hair were the same person!
