I am looking at these pictures and have all kinds of interesting questions. Such as the 20th picture from the top "Blackfoot Man 1900" I am sure that he has a porky roach on. Yes?

I am always searching for more stories about things like this. 1900! How does it stay on his head? What did he use to keep the porky roach on his head? What inspired this man to have a porky roach? Dreams? Visions?

Yes. The man in the photo you are referring to does have a porcupine hair roach on.

Traditionally, the porcupine hair roach is fastened to the head with a small braid of hair that is passed through a small hole in the base of the hair roach, and a small hole in the elkhorn spreader. Pulled taught, a roach pin is then thrust through the braid, locking it in place.

Most Plains/Prairie tribes that have the porcupine hair roach represented membership and traditions of a particular warrior society, with origins to either the Omaha Hethuska Society or the Pawnee Iruska Society.
