I posted the following message on the other boards but there have been no comments to date. Perhaps someone here would be kind enough to voice some opinions. Thank you. A friend has e-mailed me with a list of books she is using to study this subject. I have my own views on their worth, but I thought that some of you guys and gals would have some valuable input, both regarding the list and perhaps suggestions for other/additional reading. 'Thorsons Principles of Native American Spirituality' by Dennis Renault (a.k.a. Wa'na'nee'che) & Timothy Freke 'The Gospel of the Redman' compiled by Julia & Ernest Seton 'The Quiet Mind - Sayings of White Eagle' 'Touch the Earth' compiled by T.C. McLuhan Thanks in advance. ladonna & Hin Tamaheca,
Thank you both for your input.
Between you, you have crystalized my own concerns. There is no short cut via books, but equally to have no way to have regular face to face contact with the people whose spiritual beliefs one is trying to understand begs the question of where to start.
I have most of the books listed by Hin Tamaheca and they have been very helpful in giving me some insight into Lakota spirituality, but I am under no illusions that I have done more than scratched the surface. The pathway to Wakan Tanka is open to everyone and the journey along that pathway must start somewhere, with one small step. I only hope my friend will now find that she has not yet taken that step.
Pila maya.
