and page 355 (Alfred N Coe interview):
"Clarence Three Stars says: Little Wound was wounded when 15 years old, which gave him his name. The Oglalas Cutoffs went out to fight the Crows down on the Platte River. Little Wound was left with the horses of the Oglalas Cutoffs and in their absence some Crows stole up and got the horses away; he ran to his camp where he had a horse; they were using only arrows then; he gave chase & had a running fight with them & received a flesh wound in the thigh. The war party which went into the Crow camp took the Crow horses and were on their way back to camp [when] they met the Crows going off with their horses, and the two parties had a fight. Little Wound had before the parties met, retaken his horses. In the fight the Crow horses got away & went back to the Crow camp. Neither party got any horses. Next day the Crows attacked the Oglalas Cutoffs camp and the Sioux had to retreat."

Amos Bad Heart Bull, in "Pictographic History" p.146, claims that Little Wound had a brother called Crazy Horse. (Obviously not the same man as the Crazy Horse, but someone with the same name.) Does anybody know another source to confirm this? Thanks, Carlo

carlo - I have never heard of this before. In reference to "a" Crazy Horse being a brother to Chief Little Wound.
However, I have read that a man referred to as, "Greasy Head" (aka), "Greasy Hand" took (or, changed) his name to; "Albert Crazy Horse" (aka), "Crazy Horse #2 after, he married "Chief Crazy Horse's" widow.
It seems that I read about this while, doing research on some of my relatives, "Little Horse" (aka), "Young Dog" because, Little Horse married Julia Crazy Horse.
Some of this info is on "Mike Stevens" site if, you search under the name "Crazy Horse".

Thanks kakarns,
The event in Blish is from 1861, which would suggest a birth year of this man to be roughly between 1830-1840. I assume Crazy Horse was an alternative name for this man, and that he was possibly a son of Little Wound's uncle One Eye (who adopted Little Wound after his father Bull Bear was murdered in 1841).
The answer would lie in knowing the names & birth years of the sons of both Bull Bear and One Eye.

Thanks to Hreinn, who graciously pointed me to the relevant posts in the Bull Bear Family thread ( amertribes.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=oglala1&action=display&thread=1268; I should have posted there), I now think that maybe BHB was mistaken in the name "Crazy Horse" and could have meant "Crazy Bull". He was one of Bull Bear's sons and thus Little Wound's full brother. Unless of course one of his uncles had a son named "Crazy Horse", which we may never know. Carlo

I have another picture of Little Wound, but it seems like the forum has exceeded its space limits.

Last night (1/21/15), I found a Pine Ridge Census from 1886 which, lists the following families:
Mad Dog Little Wound Spotted Eagle Harry Spotted Eagle Ralph Old Horse
This is what is listed for the Little Wound family:
Little Wound - Father - M - 56 Grease - Wife - F - 50 Andrew - Son - M - 17 Jim - " - " - 10 George - " - " - 30 All Dirt - Wife No.2 - F - 47 Emma - Daughter - " - 10
Any thoughts on this ?

In 1890 Little Wound is listed with one wife, Comes Flying - age 54. Perhaps she is Grease of your 1886 census. They have a son Scare Away living with them, age 15: is he Jim? And a daughter, Leader, age 12 - maybe Emma?
George Little Wound has set up home with a wife, Lone Woman. She's age 23, but he has unaccountably lost six years - he's now 24. Think we all would like to know how George did that.
In between the two families is that of Yellow Wolf (age 28), living with his mother Owns Red - age 49. Thrashing around, but is she the same as All Dirt, and under social pressure from Church etc. she is living with one of her children? That certainly happened but I dont know that it is the explanation here.
Sorry not to be of more help - we need Ephriam!
I would be interested to see all those family listings, kakarns.

Kingsley - I will post more tomorrow. I have 12 more pages of Census to share. For now, I will post information mostly on Little Wound. It appears that he may have had several different wives.
However, there is one female woman named Little Wound that will be included.
Like the post I made earlier today, I will include the families listed with Little Wound on each page.
I was amazed to see who was listed around Little Wound on these pages. Especially, Moses One Feather whom, you know I have been researching for several years and looking for answers concerning a possible connection to Charging Eagle, my G.G.G. Grandfather.
Thanks, kakarns

Spotted Eagle was a younger brother of Little Wound's. Mad Dog was related in some way too; the 'first' Mad Dog was a brother of Bull Bear's, the father of Little Wound. There are Crazy Dog people at Kyle today, that's how the name is rendered today; Marcell Bull Bear remarked they were close relatives but I didn't take that line further.
The Crow Feather-Sans Arc link is certainly interesting, and it's reflected in this statement in the Scudder Mekeel Field Notes 1931: "Spotted Eagle's father was Little Wounds oldest brother, and his mother was a Sans Arc of the Crow Feather Band. His wife is Kiyaksa. Her mother belonged to the Kuluvitcatca (Lower Brule). Her father was White Magpie."
I'm assuming they're talking about Harry Spotted Eagle, and his wife here.

[Closing Comments]:
I did the best I could at reading and transposing. I apologize if, there are any misspelled names or, any other possibly errors. In the Census pg.'s above, they were handwritten up to 1894 and then, typed. If, they had a new ribbon or, worn letter it "smeared" and it makes it nearly impossible to read.
I hope this helps. I know that Charging Eagle, my G.G.G. Grandfather, is included with the list of names on pg. 84 in the "Cut Off Sioux / Little Wound" Census of 1877. I continue to look for more clues to their relationship and the possibility of being related. [NOTE]: I made a correction, to an error in this paragraph, in the first sentence on; 1/25/15.
I'm not sure if this is the proper place to discuss this but, I would like to say something. I met LaDeane Miller on this Board. He helped me for several yrs. on my lineage. Before he retired, he told me he wanted to share some of his files with me. He said something like; "there isn't anyone else he thought might be more deserving and he wanted me to have them." I got pretty choked up on the phone.
LaDeane did allot of research for many years and even taught classes on how to do lineage. Now mind you, LaDeane only shared probably a small portion of his files with me. LaDeane was approx. 79 yrs. old when he retired.
We have not spoken for along time but, it is with honor I can share some of the work he did. I am very thankful for his trust in me.
