unidentified, presumably Lakota, ca. 1860's - tintype ... correction: identified by board member Clarence as Hollow Horn Bear, a ca. 1900 portrait by photographer F.A. Rinehart of Omaha. This appears to be a modern fake, reproduced onto metal to appear like a classic tintype and inserted into a period tintype image frame, sold at Poulin's Auction as an original.

thanks Clarence, this means that this image is a fake and somehow made it to Poulin Auction in Maine last month (June 2024). On eBay one can find occasionally fake tintypes, that is historic photos are reproduced and sold in this this format. I should have known better, since the "feel" and appearance just did not look right.
