This is remarkable photograph taken by Lawton A. Huffman: "Sunday morning at the mission" taken at St. Labre´s Mission and School on the Tongue River. The photo shows Father Vermaat with Cheyenne families in 1901. I´ve seen the man sitting first from left in another Huffmann portrait. Brave Wolf? And the man sitting next to him? Could he be Little Wolf?

Shame so many of these photos were hosted on sites that have since gone. It would be best if we all uploaded directly to this site, it's not going anywhere soon I pray, so much great info here.
Hi Dietmar, unfortunately that is not Little Wolf, though I wish it were because we only have 3 photos of him. He would be much older looking at this time and he was already isolated from the rest of his people, living alone from 1880 to 1904 when he passed. Only George Bird Grinnell visited him (possibly some of his closest family did as well) and he was shunned by the people that he he'd saved with his own blood, fearlessness and iron will, such was the custom of exiling any Cheyenne who killed another Cheyenne.
I'm working on a post that will explain all the confusion around Little Wolf's photographic record, it is by far the most confusing one!

I tell you what though Dietmar, I would like to see a larger version of that... that man sure does have a very similar jaw line and cheekbone placement and similar proportions of all the structure points of his face to look closely related to Little Wolf. He looks more like him than his nephew did.
It is 'known' that LA Huffman did take a photo of Little Wolf, but it has never been found and again at this time he was isolated, 3 years from death and was 84 years old.

Hello Ghost Eagle,
that sounds most interesting, I did never know that there is a supposed photo of Little Wolf around that was never found yet. Very interesting to me as well, hope this photo might come to light one day. Sending good thoughts from Germany.
