I flipped through the book and while the text may be wonderful (or not), the use of the ledger drawing below with the accompanying text saying it rerpresents Crazy Horse at Massacre Canyon raises questions because the fighting was carried out by agency Sicangu and Oglala and not Crazy Horse. The image is from the book of drawings that Crazy Horse allegedly gave George Wallihan of the Cheyenne Leader after his surrender in 1877. He said they represented the life of a great warrior, but wouldn't "say that it was himself" (Powers, 273). Powers notes that Mike Cowdrey has pointed out that one image - this one - is similar to one in the Fales-Freeman Ledger that depicts Sicangu Lakota in a number of fights, but notably with the Pawnee. plainsledgerart.org/plates/index/17/2/ The image from the Wallihan ledger The image of Shooting Cat killing (or counting coup) on two Pawnee women from the Failes-Freeman Ledger. Note the lance and the same design (albeit reversed) on the shield, the use of the handgun and the blue colour for the horse.

This is from Victor Douville, via Kingsley Bray, via Dietmar: "It is said that Shooting Cat had a vision requiring him to kill a female(s) as he reluctantly killed female Skidi Pawnees. Perhaps because the Pawnees, the Skidis or Scilis sacrificed a Lakota virgin to the morning star. This is the reason why Shooting Cat drew a ledger drawing of the killing two Scilis women for Falles [Fales]." amertribes.proboards.com/thread/1163/shooting-catNot sure what, if any relationship, Crazy Horse had with Shooting Cat/One who Runs the Tiger or how the other images in the ledger are related - and that's assuming Wallihan really did get the book from him.
