See www.digitalhorizonsonline.org/digital/collection/uw-ndshs/id/102/Part of the F. B. Fiske Papers collection, State Historical Society of North Dakota. Presumably this is a Fiske photo of the real thing, which is in the old Roosevelt home, Sagamore Hill National Historic Site, Oyster Bay Cove, New York "This pictograph of the Battle of the Little Big Horn was presented to President Theodore Roosevelt by John Grass, an important Lakota leader. The painting shows the soldiers riding forward (to the right) toward the Indians, but then turning back (to the left) in retreat. All of the dead in the painting are soldiers. One Lakota warrior appears to be wounded." This site words it a little differently, perhaps implying Grass wasn't the artist: artsandculture.google.com/exhibit/political-gifts-a-collection-received-by-theodore-and-edith-roosevelt-sagamore-hill-national-historic-site/RQLiiFwUSgNqLw?hl=enIn situ: From The Minneapolis Journal, October 24, 1904:

Yep, been looking for this and a few years back was told it had "disappeared." Looks like it disappeared to public display! Thanks for finding and sending on. Will attempt to get a good high resolution image and let you know what we see. For now, looks like a really fine example.
Regards, Rod...
