This book covers the life of a Mdewakantun woman by the name of Anpaohiyayewin, translated as Day Break Woman (1810 -1904). American name Jane Anderson. Daughter of Mahpiyahotewin (Grey Cloud Woman (1793-1850) and Thomas Anderson [Wiyotanhan- Noon] (1779 - 1875). She was the granddaughter of Chief Wapasha. During her life time she experienced all the events that befell the Dakota people. She was there before and after the Minnesota Uprising of 1862, was in the prison camp at Ft. Snelling. She learned to read and write the English language. From her letters and other documents the author pieced together her biography. She is buried in Saint Mary's Episcopal cemetery located at Old Agency, Lake Traverse Reservation, Sisseton, South Dakota. This book covers many first hand accounts of the fur trade, 1862 battles and its aftermants. With her husband Andrew Robertson (1790 - 1859) they had 9 children who married or were involved with many of Minnesota's famous individuals.
