click onto images to enlarge I saw today an Indian ration card from 1908 - it's not in the best of conditions, writing thereon faded and in fact these objects are quite rare today. I tried to make out the writing on the card with the intent of trying to identify the original owner. I can make out the name EAGLE H... (second part of the name possible HEART or perhaps HAWK?), the band seems to state LAKOTA, the family name is difficult to decipher which I had hoped to do to be able to compare it with any records. I suppose the numbers on the annual Indian census are one thing and possibly there is a parallel record somewhere where there were "family numbers". There was an EAGLE HEART, an Oglala at Pine Ridge (Kyle area), but when I look at the Indian Census of that period I cannot come up with 9 members of his household (4 men, 2 women, 3 boys) - the Family Number could be 3 . 7 4 - but I am not sure.
