There is a little known biography on Stanley Vestal that may be of interest Stanley Vestal: champion of the Old West, by Ray Tassin, Arthur H. Clark Company, Glendale, CA (1973), hardcover, octavo format, 299 pages, illustrated and includes 13 pages of bibliography. Stanley Vestal's literary output is impressive, fiction and non fiction with a large volume of essays and articles in newspapers and magazines. His non-fiction work, meticulously researched and documented has served many later historians and authors. Stanley Vestal also had some shortcomings by perhaps putting too much weight onto the testimonies of specific eyewitnesses rather than also considering alternate sources. But overall the quality of his work outweighs these occasional flaws. This biography, the only one in existence, gives some insights into who Stanley Vestal was and how his literary legacy as a historian has become something of a "holy grail" of source material to anyone interested in Western Americana.
