I am seeking any information anyone may have on a Blackfoot man named Ghost Beard. Here is the background. My Greatgrandfather was Bazile Claymore. He was born in 1824 at Rocky Mountain House, a trading post in what is now Alberta. His father was a French-Canadian named Antoine Clement and his mother was Lizette Dumont, half French-half Sarsi Indian. The family moved to Florrisant, a little village on the Missouri northeast of St. Louis, in 1826. Bazile and other members were baptised in the St. Louis Cathedral that year. In 1840, when he was 16, Bazile went up the Missouri into the fur trade. The following is based upon tesstimony in Bazile's probate file, particularly from his oldest sons, Joseph and Antoine Claymore.
In either 1841 or early 42, he took as a wife a young Blackfoot woman whose name is not known. A daughter was born to that union whose first name was Lone Young Woman or Young Woman Alone or Isnala Wikosha. Apparently, Isnala's mother died soon after her birth, because the testimony notes that she was raised by her Grandfather, Ghost Beard. I have never seen any information relating to a Blackfoot named Ghost Beard.
Isnala's mother was of a marriageable age in 1842. Let us say 17 years of age. That would make her birthday around 1825. Let us say that Ghost Beard was around 25 when he fathered Isnala's mother. That would make his birth year around 1800. If he lived to 60, he would have been around until 1860,perhaps later. Ghost in Lakata is wanagi. Beard is putinhin. The closest thing I could find was a warrior who signed the 1825 treaty with the Hunkpapa whose name is listed as Wa-rig-ni-ne-gare. hardly close. Anybody have anything. Thanks
