I would like to know about mangus. And clan if possible Chief Mangas Coloradas was a Bedonkohe by birth but had many close ties with the Chihennes. He was killed in 1863. He was offered provisions in exchange of peace and when he accepted under a peace flag, General Joseph Rodman West gave his execution order. He had two sons that I know about. Those were Seth-mooda and Carl Mangus. Among his daughters were Dos-Te-She (married to Cochise) Na-ke-de-sah and Ilth-Tooda. Mangas Coloradas was succeeded by Victorio and Loco. After his dead, Mangus lived with them. He survived the battle of Terrazas at tres Castillos in 1880 but Victorio and many warriors of different clans, died. Mangus lived then among Chief Nana´s people. Nana with Mangus and Jatu started some raids in New Mexico and after that, Mangus himself led some riding parties. In 1883 Crook went to Sierra Madre to look for the broncos and bring them back to the reservation (S.C.). Chief Juh did not agree but being pursued by the Mexicans and also by the U.S. army, Bonito Loco and Mangus decided to return to the reservation and did so by the end of that year. Although many of them participated on the outbreak of May 1885 leaving the reservation once again. Mangus was in Mexico when he knew about the surrender of Jeronimo and Naiche at Skeleton Canyon . He surrendered on 1886. He married Dilth- Cley-Ih (a daughter of chief Victorio) in Ft Sill and has 5- 6? Children. Died there on 1901.

Does anyone know about Thomaso Colorados? He was killed with Victorio at Tres Castilles. I believe he was a son of Mangas Colorados and one of his Mexican Captives. The same Mexican woman who was responsible for the jealousy of two brothers of Mangas Apache wife, and they both challenged him, he killed both of them. I think that is how he got his name "Red Sleeves" from the blood on his arms after killing these men. Before then he was known as "Fuerte".

True, the brother I know about Dasodahae was Jose. Tomaso and Lopez were full brothers probably of a Mexican mother and both were sons of Dasodahae. Therefore, brothers of Mangus. In fact they lived together but I have very- very few info about them and what I know is quite confusing in fact. When Chief loco decided to return to San Carlos reservation on October 1887, Victorio split up with him and Turivio, Mangus, Tomaso and Lopez decided to remain with Victorio in the mountains. Then victorio raided into Mex. but at least Tomaso joined Nana´s party heading to Mescalero agency. I’m quite confused about Tomaso´s dead for on one hand I’ve read what it is exposed here, that he died on Tres Castillos with Victorio. And on the other hand I have also read that when Juh and Victorio raided together in 1879 attacking some parties from Carrizal, Victorio had already lost a big amount of warriors among them, Tomasito. The thing is that Tres Castillos Battle happened one year later. Confused, sorry not very accurate info.

Does a picture exist of Mangus Colorado the elder? I have read he was very tall, so it possibly could make identification easier...

Does a picture exist of Mangus Colorado the elder? I have read he was very tall, so it possibly could make identification easier... There is no picture that exist of Mangas Coloradas. The only picture is of his skull. Out of respect for Mangas Coloradas and his family I will not post that picture. There is no living picture of him. He is described as 6 foot 6 inches, 240 pounds. High forehead, large cranium, his posture is very straight. His chest sticks out and is very muscular. Broad shoulders and long hair. He was the tallest Apache around and assumed a leading role very early in his life. As for Thomaso Coloradas, I read in a book "The Apache Wars" that he died with Victorio and Ponce at the Battle of Tres Castilles.
