Got this request via e-mail:
I am researching the Great Buffalo Hunt of January 1871 hosted by the US Army for Russian Grand Duke Alexei Alexandrovich. Native American leaders in attendance were listed by Buffalo Bill as Spotted Tail, Pawnee Killer, Red Leaf, War Bonnet, Black Hat, and Whistler. As a boy, Carlos Montezuma aka Wassaja also witnessed the Hunt with his adoptive father the Italian American photographer Carlo Gentile. I would appreciate any information on this event or these people. Thank you, Campdude

To start with, I can recommend this particular book: "Custer, Cody, and Grand Duke Alexis: Historical Archaeology of the Royal Buffalo Hunt" by Douglas D. Scott, Peter Bleed and Stephen Damm (University of Oklahoma Press) Some pictures taken on the hunt have already been posted here: amertribes.proboards.com/thread/393?page=1Until now, I only have seen pictures taken of the hunt with Duke Alexis by Omaha photographer Edric L. Eaton. Do we know anything about Carlos Gentile?
