As the Oglála speak, this [Wakȟáŋ] is two words. It is wa and it is káŋ. Wa means anything which is something. It also means anything with which something can be done. When one says wakȟáŋ, this means anything which is káŋ. Wakȟáŋ is something which is káŋ. A wakȟáŋ man is one who is wise. It is one who knows the spirits. It is one who has power with the spirits. It is one who can do strange things. A wakȟáŋ man knows things that the people do not know. -- Little Wound (Tȟaópi Čík’ala)(1829-1901)
