We had a discussion on an intriguing photograph by G. G. McBride some years ago. Please see here: www.american-tribes.com/Lakota/BIO/HeDog-Oglala.htmIn the meantime a scan in better quality is available at the Princeton University archives. photo by G. G. McBride, from Crawford, Nebraska, taken at the old Red Cloud Agency No.2 site Some of the people in the photo were already identified by us: Standing far left (with cross decoration) is Iron Hawk. Standing second from left (in suit) is probably Grant Short Bull, perhaps his son Charles Short Bull next to him. The oldest man in the center (with tie) is the Oglala He Dog. Right to him is Spotted Elk (Richard/Dick, son of Chief Spotted Elk/Big Foot), with medal and pipe. Can we identify more in this new, better scan? Hans already speculated that the young man behind He Dog with the cowboy hat and bandana could be Amos Bad Heart Bull. I believe the man standing behind the supposed Grant Short Bull looks like James Red Cloud.

The sitting Lady on the right side and the boy appear also in a Buffalo Bill Wild West Show photograph with Iron Tail. His wife and son?

Interesting thought, Gregor. Hard to say definitely with these goggles on. Do we know anything about Coyote?

Late to the game, but this is Grant Short Bull, He Dog's brother, acting as a guide through Yellowstone in 1896: Photo by Haynes
