Hello all, I am a new member and I've truly enjoyed reading some of the esoteric historical facts that have been revealed on this site.
For several years I have been researching the group of Apache students that left the Ft. Bowie train station in January 1884 bound for the Carlisle school. I have poured over the school/goverment records and I have only been able to track down 19 Student names/records. They arrived at Carlisle on February 2, 1884. Some of the students that spoke english may have gone directly to the Lincoln Institute or possibly even Germany, Spain or Cuba. Some students had been at Carlisle for over two years before the first Ft. Marion students arrived. I do know that some of them were grown men with warrior status. The were escorted by Charley As Ka Do Dil Ges. There were two sons and one nephew of Bonito (Lorenzo & ? ) and Lot Eyelash. I have not been able to confirm or exclude Bonito's son Chasi-Ti as one of them.
The names I have confirmed are as follows, I am using the enrollment names and spellings;
Colton Baleazta (Balcalzah), Eben Beads, Matthew Broom, Michael Burns (Bums), Norman Cassadore, Brian Early Bird, Amelia Elseeday, Lot Eyelash, Justin Head (Rat Head), Dexter Loco, Jim Loco (Laban), Ralph Naultuey, Wood Nashozey, Eustace Pelone, Festus Pelone, Stephen Smith, Morgan Toprock, Parker Whitney West (Standing), Modoc Wind.
Any information regarding the missing 25 would be greatly appreciated. We live as long as we are remembered.
