big thanks for posting. I'm not sure that I can make it - it is a VERY long way for me. But if it turns out that I will be in the northern Plains at that time ... I will certainly try to attend :-)

Ladonna ... I think the topic of great value would be for the speakers to talk about how the Lakotas have changed their view of the world over the past 100 years. From roughly the time of Red Cloud's War to the present day ... how are Lakotas seeing their role in the world. It has been a time of enormous change of them, and a great battle of values. That battle still goes on - in the heart. So it would be interesting for speakers to talk about how their grandparetns saw things, then their fathers and mothers, and now themsevles.
The problem with history is that it gives events, it talks about times, it talks about when people fought and who died. But it does not talk very much about what was in the peoples' hearts, and what struggles happened in their own minds.
That would be a great talk!!

and can I make a suggestion. Many people might be interested in this Conference. but not everyone can come. Is there any way that you can record the sound from these talks, or better still can you record everything as a video? It would be fine to charge some money, so you can get back the costs of the recordings. But I think people would be interested in buying a copy of the video from the Conference.

Great ideals we are planning to video record everything but we have forum for people to fill out that lets us know what part will be public and part will be tribal and what part will be for the sacred and open. I agree we need to show how our history is more than an event in time, That is why we are trying to do this in a good way

i think right now we are going to stay with history, we have so much history to correct after a 100 years of misinformation out there. I think when it comes to my people future i would recommand coming to the reservation and visit. Our old old history is not wrote and that is what we want to start re-recording. We have a lot of work and hopefully with the partnerships with people like Kingsley and Emily we can start recording our history.

ah i use to live in Florida never had a problem lived over on Fort Myers Beach back in the day. I would contact people like me on every reservation each has a contract person who can give you the history or background of the people if you can not find that person just to go to the Tribal colleges and they can help. The reservations are not a closed placed, we are friendly people unless you make us mad (just kidding). I dont know about you but i do more than just live my life on the reservation. I make sure everyone who comes in contact with me learns about my great people. This site is one way to connect with my people, the people like Kingsley, Ephraim, Emily and others have made their way here to the reservations to find out who we are have found not only research information but became family with us. come visit we might adopt you!
