ladonna ... I do actually hope to visit Standing Rock. the only thing that stops me is the distance (from California). It's a long way. But I might make it next Spring. :-)

great that is only a hop-skip and a jump from the rock, Kingsley comes every two years or about i guess he is lucky because he was here last year. There is something about being able to walk on the ground that you have only read about, to see the world the people back in history seen. To understand the events in a new way.

ladonna ... I'm sure you are very right about that. I dont think that any kind of real understanding of what took place is possible without seeing ALL the country that once belonged to the Lakotas. That is so very true.
It is the same with other tribes. For example, no matter how many times people pick up a book and read about Geronimo - they will never understand him without taking time to visit the land that he lived in. The two things are inseparable. :-)

indeed. "might" is an important word. we dont want you to lose 100 years of Lakota recovery because of one crazy "wasicu". Is that the right word - it's something like that :-)

Are we still able to register for this event, or does anyone know who I should contact to see if space is still available? I saw on the registration form that it was open until October 8th.

That's right LaDonna. Right now I'm in the Black Hills, on Sunday at 1.00 p.m. I shall be giving a presentation at Piya Wiconi, the Oglala Lakota College facility at Kyle, subject: "Renewing the Oglala Oyate: Bull Bear, Old Man Afraid of His Horse and the Oglala Shirt Wearers Ceremony of 1835."
Any Pine Ridge folks, or anyone interested, come along. After that, see you at Standing Rock for the conference next week!

Hi Ladonna:
Looking forward to seeing you soon. I am headed to the airport shortly, with my plane landing in Bismarck late tonight. Tomorrow, I plan to head down to Fort Yates. Hope I can stay warm enough!
Cheers, ephriam
