Satank / Sitting Bear was an important Kiowa chief and a leader of the Koitsenko Warrior Society, the ten bravest of the tribe.
But he was not only a war chief but also influential as a peacemaker, together with others, in the peace agreement between the Kiowas, Comanches, Cheyennes, Arapahos and Kiowa-Apaches in 1840.
