Battle of Wounded Knee
Eight miles down on White Clay Creek they were Ghost Dancing, big village of them. While dancing they saw 20 mounted Indian police with American flag to stop the dancing. The policemen surrounded the dancers and told them to stop but they said: "No." So the policemen left the grounds and said they would send the soldiers down.
After the police got away they heard the soldiers come and so they came down and they saw the Pine ridge was camped full of soldiers. So the Indians came here across the White Clay and held council among themselves to get the hostile Indians at the Bad Lands. They started from here and got to where the hostile Indians were at the Bad Lands. 8 miles from here they camped and news went down that at Wounded Knee they had a battle. The news said those Indians were from Standing Rock and the chief was Big Foot.
When they heard this news Little Horse with 20 others started for Wounded Knee. When they got here they heard that the Indians were in the center and the soldiers were surrounding them in two rings and that the soldiers had killed all the Indians and thirty soldiers were killed. Over 100 men, women and children (Indians) were killed. And soldiers picked up all dead Indians and buried them near the battle ground. Those that were wounded were brought here to Pine Ridge.
Those Indians at Pine Ridge began to fire at soldiers around Pine Ridge. Police and soldiers commenced to fire on Red Cloud's place.
Indians went down to White Clay, 10 miles and made a stand. Little Horse was among them and he and several other warriors came back to spy around Pine Ridge. They saw soldiers on all these hills, digging holes, planting cannon and pointing at them. So they went back to hostile camp and the Government scouts went down there bringing tobacco and food. These scouts took in letters from Miles saying they must make peace at once. Red Cloud made up his mind to move his camp over here.
So next morning they moved their camp to Pine Ridge. When they came to camp there were three Indians called from that camp. These were Kicking Bear, Short Bull and Little Horse. So these three came to the Agency and came into Indian Agent's office. There they found General Miles and his officers and these three Indians shook hands with General Miles and his officers.
General Miles told them they should pick out 10 warriors from each camp and these warriors should go to Washington. Third seven of them picked started to Rushville and got on a train. Got into Chicago, went to a fort near there. They saw all the high men at Chicago. When they had a council with the President he told them there would never be any more soldiers to go into Pine Ridge. They mad a peace there and the President told them there would never be any more wars here.
These were prisoners f war and were camped near Chicago at Fort Sheridan. Little Horse was one of them. They were here one year and from there they went to England with Buffalo Bill and staid there one year. Returning they staid in Fort three months. Picture with General Miles. They had three women in the party.
This is the end of the story.

Little Horse was going to get up on a hill to do some holy duties. Before going it was the custom to present the pipe to the Medicine Man. So he got a pipe and filled it with kinnikinick, put on a buffalo robe and paint his face white, started with the pipe in his hand and commenced to cry. Went towards Medicine Man's tipi. When he got there he saw the Medicine Man seated in the center of the tipi, stopped crying and presented the pipe.
So the Medicine Man took the pipe from him and they have to get a light from a buffalo chip and not from match or fire. The Medicine Man presented the pipe to the four winds and zenith (up) and nadir (down). This signified that the Medicine Man is going to take the young man up to the hill and show him the mystery.
Little Horse and Medicine Man started for the sweat house. Other Indians were waiting to in the sweat house. Little Horse was taken to the little path leading into the sweathouse where his buffalo robe was thrown on a hummock in the path and he went in and sat down in the sweathouse. When all were in the Medicine Man came in and sat in the door. When all got in the door was closed and all was in darkness.
The Medicine Man commenced to talk to the Great Spirit asking the Great Spirit to show this young man he is going to put up on a hill all the mysteries.
One dog had been cooked for those men to feast on. There were two blankets one red and one blue, about one yard long. One hundred small rods 1 1/2 feet long painted different colors and on end of each one was loose tobacco, tied with calico. The feast, blankets and rods had been provided by Little Horse and when the medicine man made the speech he gave these things as an offering to the Great Spirit to show this young man the mysteries.
So the Medicine Man told him inside the sweat house when he gets up on the hill he must look to the west, where the sung goes down, the whole day. At daylight he must face the east, where the sun rises, and look there all day long.
On first day, while looking toward the west, he all at once saw a rattlesnake right in front of him three feet away. He did not know which way it came from. The Medicine Man had told him if he saw anything like that not to get scared and not to run away, and if he should run away he would have bad luck. The snake came and pressed its head against his forehead, his eyes, his nose, his mouth, then in his neck and all round all over his body under his clothes, again against his forehead, eyes, nose and mouth. Little horse closed his teeth but the snake was so strong it forced his mouth open and thrust its head in about one inch. Then Little Horse was afraid and jumped away but when he looked around he could see nothing. The snake was not there.
At dark he laid down and commenced to cry. While he was crying he could hear someone coming. He heard foot steps. It came and punched his body as though with a hand all over him. Then some one sat down next to him and cleared his throat but the young man never looked at him. Little Horse sat down, his head resting on his hand and went to sleep. They he saw the whole of Pine Ridge and he saw the dust and people shouting and running about as though they were stampeded.
In the morning before the daylight he looks towards the East and he saw the red one of his offering blankets. He could see it plain, somebody holding it up and when it came a little higher he saw it was the sun holding up his blanket, and under the sun he saw coyotes, deer, buffalo, elks, owls and all kinds of animals running about and playing under the sun. They followed the sun and it came noon and they followed the sun and went down with it.
All that time two days and two nights he had had nothing to eat.
If he had not got scared at the snake it would have talked to him and he would have had some mysterious power on earth. But when he got scared it was all spoiled. He saw the commotion at Pine Ridge indicating that trouble was coming and he saw the other visions but he got no powers.
