Hi, just found an interesting website with an interactive map of the Pine Ridge Reservation (at last it was new to me). www.lakotalands.net/prlis/#9/43.2052/-101.9463... and here a layer with the allotments: Amazing. I wonder if there are similar maps for other reservations. Toksha ake Gregor

Wow, great find Gregor!
It's particularly sobering when you select first the box of the 1851 Treaty and then the 1868 Treaty.

If a family is shown with a numbered allotment, what would they need to do to determine current ownership?? The family originally lived in Wounded Knee District but is now located almost entirely on Cheyenne River.

bobyoung,
I would suggest contacting the Pine Ridge Agency and ask for a copy of a document called; "United States Department Of The Interior, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Title Status Report, Title Interest Held In Fee Or Trust". This should list everyone who has proven to the Tribal Council their ownership to the said Allotment. You may also, need a copy of a Probate, etc., allot of times the Allotment number, is listed in the Probate.
