First, thanks to Kingsley for thinking to send along Mellette County/Rosebud census info (1910) to me this January. Yes, that is the Stands For Them I'm researching for the novel, and his father Elk Robe, who I believe died the following year. Now, I have a small mystery. Attached are a couple of late photos of Stands For Them (circa 1935?)in which he poses in full regalia and with Peace Medal(looks like Millard Fillmore when magnified) Then also attached is a man of perhaps 70 years, named Whistling Elk, praying for peace in Korea at a 1952 gathering at Bear Butte. He is clearly in Stands For Them's regalia, minus the peace medal. Stands For Them had died in 1939. Would the "borrowing" of a suit have been common, accepted? We believe the regalia eventually ended up in the Buffalo Bill museum in Cody, Wyo. Attachments:

In our way family would give the regala to another person as an honoring so you could see the same outfit on another person
