I am humble and so please take the words of Lakota here over anything I might say. When you say "bear paw" ... You mean the sketch of the paw of a bear, often drawn with wavy lines as well (as if the marks of claws)? The symbol of the bear conveys strength and power.

If you would like to see some very nice examples of authentic art by the Lakota people, try visiting the following Web site. This is the store called Prairie Edge which is located in Rapid City, South Dakota. You will see genuine Native American designs on many items they sell, including their clothing and artifacts. Probably you can find a bear spirit design on the shields. WEB SITE www.prairieedge.comThere is no harm if you use these art designs for personal enjoyment and as a way to improve your own skills. But please do not copy the work and offer it for sale. I have been meaning to buy some of the items from Prairie Edge myself. Prices are pretty high, but the work is really beautiful!!! GREAT job to all the NA artists who display their work there. dT
