Sorry for the unimaginative thread title! I have this man down as War Eagle, a Yanktonai (by Goff) and also as War Eagle, Mandan. Note the interesting cut of the legging flaps: This picture has been labelled both as War Eagle and family and Buffalo Horn(s) and family - again, Yanktonai and, again, Goff. However, it doesn't seem to be the same man as in the picture above, even allowing for a change of dress - although it is the same studio: This man, meanwhile, is down as War Eagle, Mandan, also by Goff, but I've seen the photographer identified elsewhere as Morrow: Then we have this picture identified as a Barry photograph of Dakotas: And here we have a similar photo also credited to Barry and also said to show Dakotas: This one is allegedly a Goff, featuring Hard Horn and his wives - again, allegedly, 'Sioux'. Clearly, the man from Hard Horn and his wives is in the 'Barry' photo, two pictures above, but can anyone please help and sort out this confusion? I have to say, the outdoor photos remind me of Morrow's work. Thanks.

Hi Grahame, don´t wanted to ignore your questions, but they are pretty tough. I think you´re right about the last four photos being made by the same photographer. I would also guess that none of them show Lakota Indians, more likely Mandan, Hidatsa or Arikara. Most of them are among the Barry collection at the Denver Public Library, so they are probably Goff photos rather than Morrow, although I agree that Morrow made many photos outside like the ones here. The first two photos have been labelled different so often, that I don´t really know which are the correct names. Well, so I guess my answer doesn´t help you much...

I'm fairly sure the men in one and two are different, but the man in three might be the same as the man in one! Did Mandan women wear two part dresses? I can't recall and this is getting even more confusing!

I've seen several images in the Morrow book, Frontier Photographer. So...Morrow would be my 2 cents. Henri
