During my research of Big Nose and Yellow Breast, I have come across the names of two photographers who were capturing the images of the early days on the Rosebud, around Herrick, Bonesteel and Farifax. Their names were E. D. Hemphill and Cornelius Van Santen. I am wondering if one of these men took the photo of Big Nose and A. A. Zorba, or of Big Nose by himself.
I have looked to see if I could find out more about them. The SDSHS has five photos of Van Santen's. I can only find one of Hemphill's on the internet. It is of the Herrick Elevator. I was in contact with someone from Herrick who knew about Hemphill, even owned the building where his studio used to be. But, they didn't have anymore information.
Can anyone tell me who could I write, or where could I research next?
