Hello all Want to thank all of you for your help on my sculpture of Lozan. I have one more question. Would she be wearing a knife? If so what would it and the sheath look like? So far, do I have her right. love to hear what you think. Thanks again for all your help. Attachments:

Not bad!..... Not bad at all!!.... I really like her face and her left hand!!!! As for a knife....ALL N'de/Apache women wore at least one knife....though if you look at the many old photograph's, you can't seem to see any knifes....can you? But they're there believe me!!!! She would most likely have a knife down her "boot"....right side, if she was right handed, and a larger knife (8-10 inch) left side belt (backwards) if right handed. In the photo you posted one should barely see the end of the knife handle from this angle. Nice!!!

Thanks for the reply Mithlo. You are so right about on pictures out there of knives on Apache women. I will take your advice into account on where to place the knife. I just can not find a picture of what a Apache knife and sheath looks like. Would love to hear from anyone who can tell me where to look. Attachments:

Would like to see a close-up of her face: front and from the side! Also, close-up of both hands if you could?

For standard women's clothing, there should be a square yoke on the blouse and the sleeves should be 3/4 length, and the blouse would not button all the way down the front. There is no standard style knife sheath for Apaches, but they would more likely be undecorated, cut from a piece of white rawhide with a loop or slits to fasten it to the belt and held together with stitching of buckskin string.

I wonder if the Nde women, or young girls, trained in knife fighting skills - just like the boys & men? Did the women use knives primarily for food preparation and survival, or were they familiar with Apache knife fighting techniques? That's an interesting question.

Very beatiful sculpture. I agree with Mithlo - the left hand is so fine, and the capture of the movement! But the pistol seems to me somewhat out of place and makes her to resemble a girl from NKVD preparing to make an arrest. As I understand from what I read on the subject, the main firearm was a rifle and not a pistol. A pistol was an another one. It looks like Apaches skirmished mostly from a distance and therefore had rifles ready when alerted. Most probably, she was not that slender as well. Success in your nice work!

My cuz is correct and I too like the work yet any questions of garb and such can be seen on pics of the women at the capture of he who yawns from the other threads and such. Or this some of the pics of the women on other threads would be excellent examples for YOU Enjun
