The German magazine Amerindian Research (four issues a year) has published in its latest issue (2/2012) an essay about Short Bull and his "German" Ledger book. Dr. Lothar Dräger, the former curator of the Grassi Ethnographic Museum in Leipzig describes in his article "Short Bull, Apostel der Ghost Dance Religion bei den Lakota, als Showman und Maler (Short Bull, apostle of the Ghost Dance religion among the Lakotas, as a showman and artist)" the 43 drawings Short Bull prepared in 1891 for the German painter Karl Henckel. www.amerindianresearch.deHenckel gave the drawings 1919 to the museum. The paper shows all 43 drawings and two further Short Bull drawings, which were purchased in 1909 by Frederick Weygold at Pine Ridge. The magazine is aimed, first and foremost to the German speaking countries and publishes in German of course. For our friends in Europe with German knowledge, this is perhaps still a helpful hint. As relates to the Sicangu and the Ghost Dance uprising, can anyone share a source or thoughts on the role of Lakota scouts during the uprising? (particularly from Rosebud Rez). I understand that Cheyenne scouts played a bigger role. Were the Lakota scout units kept in reserve or disolved? (for what might seem obvious reasons I suppose). Any help appreciated. Kind regards, John Hafnor, Fort Collins, CO
