My 5th grade son has been studying the 1868 Treaty of Fort Laramie and recently won the Fresno County History Day and will be traveling to Sacramento to make his presentation at the state competition.
In his research, it seems that the treaty is very one sided toward the government and he was wanting to interview a descendant of Chief Red Cloud or any other person who is close to the ongoing battle over the land dispute involving the Black Hills which was outlined in that particular treaty.
His questions:
1. As a descendant of Red Cloud, have you heard of any family stories about the 1868 Treaty of Fort Laramie where there was an agreement for the railroads to cut through sacred Native American land?
2. Did the Lakota Sioux involved in the treaty feel that they were forced into the agreement by the government?
3. Anything else that you could shed light on the Native American's point of view, he would be highly honored to learn.
Respectfully,
Key Poulan, IV (Son) Key Poulan, III (Father)

There is a wonderful little book written by Robert W. Larson, Red Cloud - Warrior-Statesman of the Lakota Sioux.
I this will help him the most.
