Red Shirt by Rinehart - labelled as Cheyenne, but it's clearly THE Red Shirt. Is there a way of transferring this thread to a Red Shirt one under the Oglala heading?

A question from a website visitor: WHAT WAS THE SOURCE OF RED SHIRT BEING AWARDED HIS "PEACE MEDAL" SHOW IN 1904 PHOTO? Anyone?

Thanks. Here are a few more Wild West Show photos. Red Shirt was 'in charge' of the Lakota but left the show in Barcelona (1889/90), after having issues with Rocky Bear, who replaced him in this role. In Sam Maddra's Hostiles, it is suggested that Rocky Bear was jealous of the way Red Shirt attracted a lot of attention from young women in Paris! I'm pretty sure I've read that Red Shirt's hair was short prior to this trip because he was in mourning, but I can't find the source. This looks similar to the image of the mounted men posted above. Red Shirt is mounted at the left of the photo. Supposedly taken in New York, earlier than the trip to Britain, though he doesn't seem to have been with the previous incarnation of the show, featuring American Horse and Rocky Bear and Pawnee as well as Lakota A clearer version of the photo posted above. Photo by J. Russell & Sons Wimbledon Another improved version of an image posted above. I think the illustrator, Paul Frenzeny is the man standing at the right of the picture. This, and the similar images posted above, is credited to Clarke & Wakeford and taken at Earl's Court. Taken at Earl's Court, London. Front row: Cody, Lew Parker (stage manager), Nate and Rachel Salsbury; back row: Carter Couturier (advetising agent), John Burke, Red Shirt Taken in Paris, 1889. The seated lady is the artist, Rosa Bonheur. Rocky Bear is to the left. The following two images were taken in Italy (or maybe Spain...) on the same tour: Red Shirt, seated at right Second from right A little closer Judging by his looks, I would suggest this must have been taken 1888-90: I suspect they may be more Red Shirt photos in European archives, though internet searches tend to reveal images from later tours.

Here is the Wild West troupe on a boat in New York before heading to England. Red Shirt should be among them, but I have to admit, I've never been able to find him: You''ll notice they're not quite en route because there's man standing off the boat on the dock. The man on the dock appears to be Moccasin Top Is Red Shirt the man circled in red? Maybe... Red Shirt at the (second) trial of Plenty Horses, between He Dog and American Horse, 27 May 1891, where he was a witness. Though he served as a scout during the Ghost Dance, I haven't seen any photos of him.
