Thanks, Filupe, it would be great - if it's ok for you we can have it here in the Wild West Shows section and see if someone has identification for the Native members of the cast. Did you manage to get a better snapshot of the detail with your great-uncle and his wife at the McCracken collection's website?

Annie. today, re-reading White Man Stands in Sight (J. Colhoff) 's wintercount, I noticed that the 1889 entry is "Chief Red Shirt's sister killed herself". I'm not 100% this is the Red Shirt we've been talking about, but there's a strong possibility, as the commentary goes on saying that the girl was living in a Loafer camp. The wintercount also gives us the name of this girl's father: Little Crow. I've no information on Red Shirt's parents, even if I remember reading in one of the LBH threads that he was the offspring of a mixed marriage. Of course, another explaination could be that this sister was in fact a cousin. Hi Jinlian ... I'm just catching up !! I don't think that Little Crow is a relation .... we've been around and around in circles trying to find out about Redshirt .... I should get all the information up together and post it here .... but I keep "playing" too much ( theres so much to read and learn !! ) and I'm not getting anything done !! Annie

HI all; I stumbled on this great forum during my seemingly lifelong search for confirmation of an Ogalala Lakota named Blackbird (or Black Bird) having been on one of Buffalo Bill's European tours during the period of this thread. I have only been able to find his name and that of his wife and son Wambli on the last tour's ship manifest. I would dearly love to find him in a group picture while in England. I have several period pictures of Black Bird in the Pan American Exposition of 1908 and an 1898 period photo by Heyn of Omaha NE. Jay

Thanks. I hadn't see the photo on the right before. My daughter is married to the great grandson of Chief RedShirt. His name is Sean Vine Redshirt. Since he now has a son we are trying to restore some of the family's history via the internet. Are you in Europe. We know he traveled there with Buffalo Bill and wonder if there are more photos over there? you can email me at smeisha@aol.com. By the way, he was traditional and would only cut his hair as a sign of mourning.

I don't recall having seen this posted before - apologies if it's already on this board or at LBH: Taken in Rome (95% at Villa Borghese) in 1906 Red Shirt is second from left: Also, a close-up of Rocky Bear, in case someone finds him as attractive as Red Shirt

I have thia group photo dated 1889. Judging by RS's appearance in the Wyman photo, the 89 date is more likely.

Uhhm, this would make sense - my Cody-ist friend says that there were two main Italian tours of the WWS , the first in 1890 (only Rome - in late February- and Naples) and the second in 1906 (Venice, Milan and Roma as the main stops), and your guess sounds right.

Author L. G. Moses ("Wild West Shows and the Images of American Indians", University of New Mexico Press, page 86) indeed states that the above photo was taken in Naples in January or early February 1890, although the inscription says 1889).

Try it in rush hour... Anyway, here's another photograph from the Italian tour of the WWS, still from Rome: Isn't Red Shirt at far left of the image ?
