Hello! I know this picture (attached below) has been talked about on here already, but I am looking for more information on some of the individuals in the 1868 Fort Laramie Treaty photograph. I know Spotted Tail, Roman Nose, Old Man Afraid of His Horses, and Lone Horn are present. However, is there any additional information that can be found on Whistling Elk, Pipe, and Slow Bull? Also, does anyone know why these seven men were photographed specifically together for this? I would assume it was because they were all distinguished chiefs, but I am sure there were others present as well?

If you look closer, you'll see the man at the left isn't Spotted Tail. You can see it's not the same man

Thank you for your reply, but every other source/reference material implies the identity of the man on the left as Spotted Tail including the Clown Family (descendants of Crazy Horse who mention it on their Facebook page). Or could there be two Spotted Tails?
Also, any information in my originally asked questions would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Sorry, but people get stuff wrong because of an initial misidentification. They're Oglala and Minicowoju; Spotted Tail and various Brule headmen were photographed independently of this group

Grahame is absolutely correct. You have to understand how these identifications were made. Mostly they come from historian Walter Camp, who tried to find out who is in the Alexander Gardner pictures many years after they were taken. He did a good job, many names are correct, but some are not.
