Lakota - early tobacco bag, pre-reservation period, ca. 1860's/1870's . Deer hide with elaborate pictorial beadwork depicting the deeds and honors of a war leader. The horse tracks indicate horse stealing raids/captured horses, the black and white diamond shapes represent feathers earned for valor in battle, the "X" shape indicates having counted coup, the pipe represents leadership.
