Can anyone tell me anything about Ice, who lived on Pine Ridge Reservation, c. 1892?
I know that there was a famous Cheyenne of that name, could there be a connection?
The reason I ask is that I am trying to make sense of the passengers lists relating to the Indians who participated on Buffalo Bill's 1891-92 tour of Belgium, Germany and Great Britain. Ice was one of those. I have a Mr and Mrs Ice on one of the return passenger lists in mid-season, in early 1892. 'Mrs Ice' does not appear on the passenger list coming over on board the Switzerland in April 1891. I do however have a lady called 'Two Women' on the Switzerland list who is otherwise unaccounted for in terms of her ultimate return to the States.
Could this indicate, therefore, that Two Women was the wife of Ice???
The other two Indians whose returns I cannot account for, incidentally, are Coming Grunt and Boy. Any information will be gratefully received.

Hi Tom,
I don't have anything about Ice, although I think he must be another man than the Cheyenne of same name.
Mrs. Ice is mentioned in 'The Leavenworth Standard' newspaper (Kansas) of June 26, 1891 as being in Brussels, Belgium with Buffalo Bill and other Lakota women like Her Blanket, Eagle Woman, Crow Cane, Calls The Name and Medicine Horse Woman.

Many thanks Dietmar,
That's a big help. I agree, it looks like from census information that Ice is not a Cheyenne.
Eagle Woman is, I suspect, an alias but the other names are familiar to me. The last three were hostages and Calls the Name married Black Heart in Manchester.
Where can I access the Leavenworth Standard article? It looks very interesting.

Hello Tomfc.
I would also suggest looking under hail as ice and hail were commonly intertwined. I know of a couple of Hail(Wasu) family members in my tree as well as a daughter named Mary Ice Armijo (daughter of Hail).
